Entertainment Review: The Beatles LOVE Cirque Du Soleil

For as long as I can remember I’ve always wanted to see a Cirque Du Soleil show, especially the Beatles LOVE. I’d viewed as many preview videos from these shows as I could online to get a feel for what it would be like to really be there, but rest assured the real thing is a billion and a half times better. As Andrew and I arrived we were escorted to our seats by a lady in very British garb. We were in for quite a surprise as we had THE BEST seats in the house. The seats were set-up completely surrounding the stage, so it was hard to have a bad view, but our seats were certainly the best, we were able to view the show from so many different angles and get a glimpse of every part of the action.

Growing up I actually wasn’t the hugest fan of the circus, mostly because I was afraid that some wild animal would escape and eat me. Luckily, LOVE didn’t have any wild animals, so I was able to relax for the most part, while still becoming a little bit nervous at some of the amazing stunts. I don’t think that they could have come up with a better Beatles playlist either for the show. LOVE was set-up in a way in which every song told a story, which was one of my favorite parts. Characters like Mr. Kite, Eleanor Rigby and Father McKenzie truly came alive in the Cirque theatre. The show’s playlist has even won two Grammy’s!!

Recently at the show’s fifth year anniversary the performers and theatre goers were graced with the presence of Sir Paul McCartney, Yoko Ono & Sean Lennon, Olivia & Dhani Harrison, Sir George & Giles Martin, along with Cirque du Soleil President & CEO Daniel Lamarre, LOVE Director Dominic Champagne and Artistic Guide Gilles St-Croix. Ringo Starr was currently on tour in Europe and sent a video message that was played at the top of the show for more than 2,000 attendees.

After we left, the night continued to get even better, if that was even possible! The Cirque LOVE public relations contact recommended that if we were planning on having dinner after to try STACK in the Mirage through their dinner and show packages. These packages are a great deal for people who are planning both dinner and a show.

We arrived at STACK around 8:30 p.m. and were promptly greeted by the host who showed us to our seats. We had not just one, but two waiters: Vince the head waiter and Trevor who I will call the “sous” waiter. Both were so accommodating and welcoming and made us feel like we were the most important people of the evening. Vince recommended we start off with their signature Hot Rocks and Japanese Spicy Crab appetizers. First the Hot Rocks arrived with thinly sliced, marinated sirloin in which you place the beef on the hot rocks for about three seconds on each side where you cook it yourself table-side! Next the Japanese Spicy Crab appetizer arrived on toasted rice. I have an obsession with toasted rice, as I usually get the Shaki-Shake Tuna at Hub51 in Chicago.

Andrew chose the Brooklyn 14oz Bone-In Filet, a steak which he had never tried. I chose the Sea Bass over Lobster Risotto with a Shellfish Broth. If you read my blog enough, you know that I have a weakness for lobster, almost as much as bacon. The lobster risotto part of the dish was not lacking as there was several large pieces of lobster scattered about, which made me extremely happy. Andrew also finished his entire filet which was quite impressive. For a side we shared the “When God wants tator tots this is where he goes”, which are homemade tater tots with brie cheese and bacon incorporated into them.

If we weren’t stuffed enough already, Vince insisted we have dessert. After looking over the menu we decided to ask them to make us the Warm Blueberry Pie Crisps, which were originally only included in the dessert sampler line-up. Luckily, they were able to make three of them for us to share which was the perfect amount! Overall the dinner was delicious, and the show was fabulous. As much as I’d like to see a new show and try a new restaurant the next time I am in Las Vegas, it will be pretty hard not to do a repeat of the evening!
