My Favorite Bites from LuxeHome CHILL and Spain’s Great Match
Right before the holidays this year I had a chance to attend two tasty food events in the city, LuxeHome CHILL and Spain’s Great Match. As you know I’m not attending as many food events these days, but both of these had a super appealing list of wines and restaurant pairings that I wasn’t about to pass up. It also helped that Spain’s Great Match was occurring right before our travels to Spain and was the perfect event to get us ramped up for two weeks of Spanish wine and food.
LuxeHome CHILL is an event that occurs every year, so to entice you to attend next fall, I wanted to share my favorite bites from the event. You can read about the three amazing non-profit’s that CHILL benefits as well from my pre-event post here.
Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab: Ahi tuna tartare cones with tuna, avocado puree, togarashi, sesame dressing
Beatrix: Oh my! caramel pie with shortbread cookie crust, caramel filling and vanilla bean whipped cream
Hubbard Inn: lobster rolls with Maine lobster salad, red onion, celery, lettuce, aioli, New England hot dog bun
Maple & Ash: Coconut cream pie with coconut custard and rum Chantilly
Howell’s & Hood: Pressed watermelon, whipped burrata, spiced orange, sour apple and matcha
Looking back at Spain’s Great Match after our trip to Spain, I realized how authentic the food from Chicago Spanish restaurants was and that we ended up drinking many of the same wines that took part in the event as we then did in Spain! When we returned from our trip I made a trip to Binny’s to pick out some of my favorites to share with a friend before a dinner out. In my opinion, sharing a region’s food and wine is the best way to transport a person who hasn’t been to that country, a true idea of their culture.
