Shine and Dine 2014 Chicago
This August I attended the fourth annual Shine and Dine gala benefiting Step Up Women's Network at the beautiful Bridgeport Arts Center's Skyline Loft in Chicago. This was the third year I attended along with my sister and it’s come to be one of our favorite charity events of the year! The silent auction, wonderful food, and moving speeches from former Step Up participants make it an easy cause to get behind.
Filini's yellow fin tuna sedani: tube shaped pasta, red pepper sauce, raw yellow fin tuna, scallions, lemon oil, gremolata
This year former Step Up participant, Kenia Rodriguez spoke passionately about the impact that the Step Up program had on her life. As the daughter of a teen mom from an underprivileged area in Chicago, Kenia knew that she wanted to break the cycle and attend college. Now with an anticipated graduation date of 2016, Kenia is enjoying her last two years at DePaul University and still keeps in close touch with many of the Step Up mentors who helped her to realize her potential and make her dreams a reality.
Honey Butter Fried Chicken's chicken and grits: roasted chicken, garlic grits, honey buffalo sauce, chicken crust crunchies and scallions
While at the event I had the chance to taste some delicious offerings from the following restaurants and bars:
- Chicago Q
- Freestyle Food and Drink
- Honey Butter Fried Chicken
- Kaiser Tiger
- Opart Thai House
- Ra Sushi
- Paramount Events
- Table 52
- TETE Charcuterie
- Zed 451
- Vanille Patisserie
- Numy Yummies
Zed 451's s'more pie skewers
Overall the event was a great success and the Callahan sisters enjoyed yet another tasty and enlightening Shine and Dine event!
